Meet the beat cops!  June 5th.  Details forthcoming!

In April the St. Paul Police Department will present its biannual Police Reserve Training Course, preparing interested citizens who complete the course to act as Reserve Officers.  Duties of the the volunteer-graduates include >= 100 hours per year devoted to  such tasks as crowd control at civic events, neighborhood patrol, traffic control, etc.  Reserve officers do not carry a gun, but are provided with a uniform and are expected to act as police "extenders".  This could be valuable to our neighborhood, especially as the SPPD will be stressed this summer with preparation for the Republican National Convention.  Anyone with interest in participating in the course can make contact with Officer Gennaro Vaientine at SPPD Community Affairs (651-558-2354).  He would like to hear from interested individuals as soon as possible.

I've recently completed the SPPD Citizen Police Academy, have been impressed with the quality of the officers, and am planning to take the Reserve Officers course.
