Aiki-Protect Self-Defense Course

A Six Hour Short Course Introducing Effective Self-Protection Techniques

Why Worry about Self-Protection?

We know the world is a dangerous place:  probably more dangerous than in past years. It’s better to survive, and be free of violence, than to succumb to it, inviting further violence.  Vigilance and a positive expectation associated with self-protective behavior will improve your chances of AVOIDING and ESCAPING from street violence.

Who are we?

Our group has been doing community courses for a number of years.  We’re local citizens from the East Metro area who study Yoshinkan Aikido, the martial art of the Tokyo Riot Police.  Our chief instructors have studied for a cumulative 100 years.  Our studio, Shuharikan, on W Seventh has been licensed by the International Federation for 10 years.  Our teachers have years of experience in teaching a variety of subjects and include a doctor,  a district attorney, an internet security expert, a judge, and a chemical engineer.  We are a non-profit organization intent on reduction of  violence in the community.

The Intent of this Aiki-Protect Course

This Aiki-Protect course is designed for the average citizen who wants to learn AVOIDANCE and ESCAPE.  We don’t plan to teach you to Fight, Take Away Weapons, or Restraint until Enforcement Arrives.  In this course, if I’m not able to Control my Environment, my plan is to Break Away, and Run Away.  This is the Goal of the Course!

How is the Course Designed?

This course will run for two 3 hour sessions Sunday March 9 & 16, 2008.  It includes lecture, discussion, and physical training.  A copyrighted curriculum is provided, to be studied before classes.  We expect both physical and mental work from our students.  The key idea is to have fun while learning new survival skills.
